Happy Halloween!

Listening to: Linkin Park – Hybrid Theory

Mood: Creepy

October is always a busy month for me, and I spend a majority of my time preparing for my annual Halloween party. I usually pick a theme early in the year and plan my party accordingly for months leading up to the event. The Hubs (who embraced my love of Halloween a long time ago and is a kickass pumpkin carver) helps me decorate the house and we live in utter creepiness all month long. This year I chose Game of Thrones “Red Wedding” because anyone who has watched the show or read George R.R. Martin’s books will remember how horrifying that scene is. I plan to be very bloodily dressed.

For work, though, I decided to rally the troops and entice everyone to wear costumes with the promise of prizes. It worked, and I was happily surprised to come into today and see almost everyone dressed up. The costume I wore to work is different from my Halloween party costume (cleary I love this "holiday" far too much), and for my work costume I went with a character from America McGee’s Alice, Alice Liddell. For those of you who don't know, American McGee's Alice is a video game from 2000. Set years after Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking-Glass, the game features an older, more cynical, macabre incarnation of Alice and is totally my cup of tea. Now I’m not a gamer (and never have been), but I like to be entertained and it’s a video game that I enjoyed back in the day. Plus, it’s very creepy and perfect for Halloween.

Here’s the video game version on the left and my version on the right. I had no intetion of doing it exactly, but I think I did all right nonetheless. The bloody vorpal blade is perfect, at the very least.

Anyway, tonight I have some final "Red Wedding" decorations to complete and I’m making Ned Stark cake pops (heads on pikes). Plus, the trick-or-treaters in their adorable costumes showing up at my door are my favorite. It’s going to be a spectacular weekend.
