Between Two (or Three) Worlds
Listening to: Snow Ghosts – A Small Murmuration
I have a lot of ideas. A lot of words in my head aching and clawing and screaming to get out. For me, the hardest part about writing isn’t things like “writer’s block.” No, it’s deciding which of the voices, words, and characters I want to devote my efforts to.
Now that BLOODBIRD is off on its journey to find a home, I’ve resumed edits on THRALL TO THE BURNING SKY (aka TTBS). I'm making some major revisions to this ms and having a lot of fun in the process. But in the back of my head, I have two new characters fighting over which of their stories I’m going to write next. One is wielding her plasma wheels, ready to order her gang of space thieves to take down anyone who gets between them and their next payday. The other is smiling like the Cheshire Cat, watching and waiting for someone to slip up so she can steal their secrets and sell them for profit. Both of them are very misunderstood, flawed, badass women. Their worlds are completely different from each other and I’d love to hang out in both for a while.
The epic battle happening in my head is at the point now where I don’t know who will come out on top. Probably whoever is the most cunning and least injured by the end of the fight. Things could get messy. Either way, the other will eventually have her chance.
But I’d like one of them to win soon, because despite how much I enjoy editing (weird, I know, but I do), I'm almost done with my round of TTBS edits. I want to dive into soemthing new. I love the feeling I get when I’ve just started a new story in a new world with a new set of characters and I get to royally fuck things up for them. I’m ready for that new adventure. I hope my characters can handle it.
