My Pitch Wars Mentee Bio

Listening to: Paramore – Riot!

Mood: Excited

The amazing Brenda Drake’s Pitch Wars 2014 is officially underway! While the awesome mentors are busy combing through their slush to decide on their picks, some of mentees have put together mini bios to serve as introductions (and hopefully entice the mentors).

So, in no particular order, here are the top reasons why the mentors I submitted to might want to draw their swords, battle axes, and crossbows and fight an epic and bloody battle to work with me and my kickass ms.

10. I am a dog lover and have three rescue pups

I adore them like they’re my children.

9. I write YA, NA and Adult—and read all those categories as well

Meaning I read a lot. About 75 books a year (not including rereads). I pay attention to what’s going on in the various categories of the genre I write, as well as the literary world as a whole.

I feel this way about writing, too.

8. I have a thick skin and am very competitive

No, seriously. I value honesty and won’t take offense or be hurt by suggestions/feedback to my manuscript. I also like to win. Hell, I WANT to win. I will give you 200% of me to get it done so that we can be Pitch Wars champions!

We will be the most badass team on this planet, or any other for that matter.

7. I can have whole conversations using only quotes from Buffy the Vampire Slayer and various movies

My Hubs and I do this all the time. It’s like our own special language. But of course when we’re around friends and family, they always look at us like this:

Don’t bother trying, you’ll never understand us

6. My favorite Irish whiskey is called Writers Tears

I discovered it on a trip to Ireland and have to special order it online every time I run out (I can’t find anywhere that sells it in WA state). Also, the name says it all!

Look how sad that bottle is.

5. This is not my first, second, or even third book

I’ve been writing for a long time, working hard to hone my craft. I don’t ever believe I’ll be done bettering myself as a writer. With every book I write, I learn something new and valuable about myself and my craft.

4. I was a bartender for many years to put myself through college, which means I can make a mean martini, Cadillac Margarita, Manhattan, Long Island Iced Tea, Old Fashioned, whatever you can dream up

Basically, pick your poison and I can make it for you. My mind is a steel trap full of drink recipes. Having a bad day? I can help with that! Having a good day? I can help with that too!

3. I get star struck over authors, but not actors or musicians

When I first started going to Kim Harrison’s book signings a million years ago—she’s one of my favorite writers—I could barely speak to her except to say “thank you” when she signed her book for me. I’ve since learned to be a little more talkative, but that doesn’t lessen the awe of being around an author whose work I adore.

I’m an unapologetic fangirl. I ran into Sandy Williams at RWA’14 and I can neither confirm nor deny that I did this to her (okay, I totally did).

2. I secretly love kid’s movies

I have been known to drag the Hubs to the theaters to watch movies meant for the younger audience.

Shhh.gif

Oh wait, not so secret anymore.

1. If you love my manuscript, I will work my ass off and take to heart every suggestion and feedback you give me

I WANT it to be the best. And in the end, my ms will be that much more badass because of it!

This will be us. We will rule the world.

And if all that’s not enough for you to want to work with me, well you can always check out my other bio here.
